A great article. As a serial entrepreneur with 33 years of startup experience (a boomer working on my sixth startup) I’ve observed two camps in the startup world. The venture-backed startup -vs- the lifestyle startup. I’m the product of the lifestyle startup. Instead of mastering raising capital, we focused on creating revenue and profitability. My goal was not to build the unicorn, my goal was to become a part of the top 1% of earners and enjoy a “freedom lifestyle” as a result. I’ve never taken in startup capital. Actually, no one ever offered. In every startup we built a customer acquisition system around an idea. Our customers funded our growth. Most of the entrepreneurs I know did the same. The lifestyle entrepreneur was never cool … but we get to live a cool lifestyle.
